I have just finished posting a chapter onto the Story Mint site. At the moment we are still at the BETA stage but an interesting part of the site is the serial. All members, readers and writers alike, can book a chapter of any new serial starting up. One author is picked to think up a story line and write the introduction. Then we all pile in and book a chapter. No one knows what they are going to write until the previous writer has posted, which leads to some very interesting writing styles and changes in the plot. There are ten chapters and the limit is 500 words. It is a great way to focus on the essentials of the story and get your message across.
Another innovative feature is the refinery section. Take a sample of 250 words from your work and post it. Within seconds you will get an assessment of your work, looking at style and feel. You will find out which well known authors' works are similar in style to your own.
At the end of each chapter, the author's name and country of origin is displayed. Readers can leave comments and E mail the writer too. In this way, a writer can develop a following.
Readers take a small survey when joining. They list favourite genres and receive updated lists of published work in those genres, tailored to suit their own taste. All work will be edited to a high standard before it is published.
This is an exciting time and I am very pleased to be part of a fantastic experience.
So now it's back to the grind. I am going to take this week to edit another chapter of Written In Stone while I wait to see the results of my editing on the previous chapter. I'm sure Suraya will have something to say about it. Whatever that is, good or bad, I know I'll learn something new.
